Some indications that your child may be a tagger are:

1. Your child stays out until early morning or all night.
2. Your child frequently wears a large backpack or baggy pants.
3. Clothing may be paint-stained.
4. Packs and loose clothing can be used to hold paint cans or carry graffiti tools.
5. Your child carries tools used for etching glass, such as hole punches, rocks, glass cutters, screwdrivers, awls, metal scribes, or other sharp objects. (Your child may not be able to explain exactly why he/she has this in their possession.)
6. Your child has taken up the hobby of ink marking.
7. Your child has large quantities of magic markers, shoe polish containers, or other devices used for drawing.
8. Your child sleeps during the day and is active outdoors at night.

13. Your child is in possession of graffiti paraphernalia, such as markers, etching tools, spray paint, bug spray, and starch cans. The bug spray cans are used to make tags that will only show up in the rain.
14. Your child is in the age group statistically associated with tagging: ages 12 to 18 (sometimes older).
15. Your child has graffiti displays or tags on clothing, binders, backpack, and the underside of the bill of their hat. Tags you see on the walls of your neighborhood are seen on your child’s walls, books, and clothing.
16. Your child is frequently deceitful about his/her activities.
17. Your child has quantities of paint in cans, but does not have the income to afford it.

Some people have asked us why we run some stories that involves areas outside of Orlando. After all, this is Make Orlando Safer Today, not Protect Palatka Pronto. Our reply is that we want people to realize that when a crime issue hits one part of the state or country, it is only a matter or time before it migrates our way. For example, car-jackings used to be only a California and Miami thing and now they are everywhere. With that in mind, below is a compelling story from   www.cape-coral-daily-breeze.com.  It should be noted that “Juggalos” are followers of a rock/rap crossover band called Insane Clown Possee, whose pre and post concert crowds have been linked to severe violence nationwide.

Lee County Sheriff's detectives arrested 14 teens and adults alleged to be gang members this week as the result of a sting operation targeting the online promotion and recruitment of criminal organizations on social networking sites like myspace.com.
A new state statute put into effect by Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum makes it a third-degree felony to promote gangs electronically, as well as stiffens penalties of other gang-related crimes.
The statute allowed the Sheriff's Office to make the arrests based on hundreds of hours of planning and investigation by their Gangs and Intelligence Units during "Operation Firewall."
One youth was charged based on what officials called a "hit list" on a Web site.

Devin Goldie, 15, of 1735 N.W. 13th Terrace, had composed a list entitled "people I want to kill" on his Myspace page, including the names of classmates, a teacher and a principal at North Fort Myers High School where he was a student; and a Cape Coral police officer, according to LCSO spokesperson Tony Schall. He was charged with electronic communications to harass by a gang member and written threat to kill or injure. Goldie is a self-proclaimed member of a gang recognized as a national threat by the FBI called "JUGGALO," Schall said in a written release. Family members could not be reached for comment Friday evening. Others arrested include Felix Cuevas, 58, of 4510 S.E. 6th Street, Apt A. He was a veteran member of the Latin Kings street gang in New York who was recruiting new members in Lee County, according to detectives Friday. Cuevas was charged with five counts of recruiting for a criminal street gang and various related charges, according to booking records for the Lee County Jail.
Twelve others, including two Cape Coral residents, received various charges ranging from promoting gangs electronically to invoking the kingpin statute to RICO.
Those charged include:

* Richard Figueroa-Santiago, 22, of 311 N.W. 10th Street, gang member use of electronic communication to harass.
* Yan Rocha, 22, of 627 Southwest 23rd Street, gang member use of electronic communication to harass.
* Victor Cruz, 17, of 3106 S.W. 28th Street, Lehigh Acres, gang member use of electronic communications to harass.
* Obduella Soto, 25, of 626 Carolina Avenue, Fort Myers, two counts of gang member use of electronic communications to harass.
* Miguel Jimenez Jr., 17, of 4236 Edgewood Avenue, Fort Myers, gang member use of electronic communications to harass.
* Isaias Antonio, 16, of 4935 Billy's Creek Drive, Fort Myers, gang member use of electronic communications to harass.
* Uriel Lujan, 15, of 7480 Garry Road, Fort Myers, gang member use of electronic communications to harass.
* Erik Hernandez, 14, of 2432 Pauldo Street, Fort Myers, gang member use of electronic communications to harass.
* Pablo Ortega, 46, of 4424 Lake Heather Circle, Saint James City, five counts of recruiting for a criminal street gang, five counts of public order crimes criminal attempt to solicit or conspire level 1 or 2, cruelty towards child without great harm, racketeering and using a two-way communications device to facilitate a felony.

* Priscilla Ortiz, 23, of 11350 Redbud Lane, Bonita Springs, 11 counts of possession of a concealed weapon by a convicted felon, two counts of using a two-way communications device to facilitate a felony, racketeering and dealing in stolen property.

* Marcos Santiago, 17, of 5447 11th Street, Fort Myers, two counts of recruiting for a criminal streetgang and racketeering.

" Turn left at Police station...."

There is a new trend in auto thefts. If the thief finds a GPS unit in the car, they are sometimes accessing the "Home" location from the device memory. They then immediately go to the victim's home to rob it, knowing that the victim is not there. After all, they have their car ! Police recommend that if you put your home address into your GPS that you rename it to something that does not indicate it is where you live. Additionally, owners can put a "Home" listing into the unit, but program it as your local police station address. That way, the thief starts heading for the cops thinking he's heading toward a home to rob.

The Orange County Sheriffs Office and the Orlando Police Department are dedicated to stopping gang,  gang wannabe and tagger activity within their jurisdictions. However, they cannot be everywhere at once. This is where citizens can help. After all, it is our property values and neighborhood reputations that take a hit each time graffiti appears. Graffiti goons like to strike the same areas or property repeatedly. That means that if we are especially vigilant of those spots, our chances of witnessing graffiti vandals in action increases. At that time, just call   9-1-1.  Never confront any graffiti goons. Just make the call and keep a safe distance. Here are some problem areas:
